Campgrounds and Parks
Purpose/Goals
To assure that the public is adequately protected from injury or the spread of disease when using or occupying campgrounds, recreational camps and parks.Program Description
License and inspect above-noted facilities for overall safety and sanitary conditions. Enforce state and local regulations governing these facilities. Collect and test drinking water, pool and beach samples (if applicable) to assess for contamination and require corrective measures when unsafe levels of contaminants are identified. Provide consultation to facility operators and the public on preventing health and safety hazards with operating or using these facilities.
Campgrounds (licensed facilities) and county parks are inspected annually to insure general safety standards and state code requirements are met. The Department also licenses and inspects Special Event Campgrounds. Drinking water samples are obtained at the time of the inspection and analyzed for nitrate levels and the presence of coli form bacteria.
