Roominghouses
Any dwelling unit that has more than four unrelated occupants is required to be licensed as a roominghouse in the City of Eau Claire and Altoona. Environmental Health Specialists inspect the housing units to achieve compliance with adopted housing codes.
- Licensing/Permits: New roominghouse licenses must be approved by City Council. Existing roominghouses are annually renewed through the Health Department. Please contact us if you have questions regarding roominghouse license, renewals, or inspections.
Complaint Investigations
The Health Department's Housing Program will inspect housing within the City of Eau Claire, Fall Creek, Augusta, and the Townships of Union and Seymour for compliance with the Housing Maintenance and Occupancy Code - Chapter 16.08 (e.g. poor exterior maintenance, garbage, sanitation).
Outside of those locations noted above, our Department will inspect for housing-related complaints such as unsanitary conditions, garbage, trash, interior safety and sanitary issues (e.g. mold, animal feces, etc).
