Hazardous Materials
The West Central Regional Response Team is a joint venture between Eau Claire Fire & Rescue and Chippewa Falls Fire & Emergency Services. The team has 40 members, with 28 from Eau Claire and 12 from Chippewa Falls, and is contracted with the State of Wisconsin to deliver regionalized “Level A” hazardous materials response to a 14-county area in West Central Wisconsin. Team members also provide consultation for emergency responders concerning haz mat situations they may encounter, in addition to providing outreach presentations to law enforcement, emergency medical services, fire departments, and local government personnel throughout the response area. City of Eau Claire tax dollars are not used to operate the team; the State of Wisconsin provides funding.
The Level A team contracts with the Rice Lake Fire Department and the Menomonie Fire Department for their departments to serve as designated CATs (Chemical Assessment Team) as adjuncts of the West Central team.
