On June 15, 2017, crews worked hard to get the final pavement markings finished for the Short Street reconstruction, which completed the project. This project consisted of new asphaltic pavement replacing the deteriorated concrete pavement, the addition of curb and gutter instead of the previous gravel shoulder, and widening the sidewalk along the south side of the road connecting the state bike trail with the Short Street Bridge over the Chippewa River.
On-street bike lanes were another new feature included with the Short Street reconstruction project. These lanes are recognizable by the marked bike symbol and are located between the driving lanes and curb (click here for an example of how the lanes appear). For the safety of all bicyclists, please refrain from parking vehicles in these designated areas.
Parking is prohibited in the on-street bike lane areas by City Ordinance 10.24.010. If you are planning to use the Chippewa Trail and are looking to park near the Short Street area, please click here to view the map for safe, appropriate parking locations.
