Area Law Enforcement Agencies provide the public with valuable information about recent criminal activity in our region.
The Eau Claire Police Department, Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office, and Altoona Police Department are now all participating in Crime Mapping, a web-based mapping program which maps specific criminal activity in each department's jurisdiction. These crime activity maps and data are free for public viewing.
Crime Mapping takes crime data from each department's records system, extracts specific criminal activity and plots those crimes on a map. This data is updated on a daily basis and information will be stored for 90 days.
This program affords residents and visitors the ability to see where recent criminal activity has occurred and become better informed on criminal activity in our region. It is our hope that this program will add to the partnerships our agencies have already created within our communities.
Crime Mapping also allows the public to sign up for email alerts when a crime is posted near a specified address or within an identified distance of a specified address. Directions on how to receive these e-mail alerts can be found on the Crime Mapping web site.
All addresses posted in this program are generalized to help ensure privacy is protected. Crime types may change during the course of an investigation.
Log on to www.CrimeMapping.com, click on the state of Wisconsin from the US map and select your specific agency from the drop down box.
You will then see a map with specific criminal activity posted for the jurisdiction you requested. As you click specific icons, you will get information on that specific crime.
