Assessing is a division of the Finance Department that provides assessment of real and personal property for all taxable properties in the City. The primary function of Assessing is to assure fair and equitable assessments based on the estimated market values as of January 1 each year.

The Board of Review heard all appeals on June 2 and has adjourned for the 2014 assessment year

 
 

Revaluation Cycle

 

 A three year revaluation cycle is used in the City of Eau Claire.  The next revaluation is scheduled for the 2016 assessment year.  The revaluation process includes a review of the property records, an analysis of recent comparable sales, and a determination of new assessed values for all properties.  Assessed values are typically based on recent arms-length sales of similar properties.

 

 Citywide Project to Update Property Records

As part of the assessment process, we periodically revise and update the property records. We use the information contained in the records as a basis for the annual assessment and triennial citywide revaluations. The records also serve as a resource for other city departments as well as the public.

Over the next several years, we will be visiting all properties in the city to update the property records. Most of the records were last revised during the three-year period from 1998 through 2000. All property owners will be contacted by letter and asked to schedule a time for the assessor to view the interior of their home.
